Our Story
Terra Vista is the result of a dream and lots of perseverance that has led to the establishment of a very successful olive cultivation and processing operation as well as one of the Wheat Belt’s finest restaurants.
The Green Family, in conjunction with wheat and sheep farming in Western Australia, actively sought ways to diversify and add value to their farm.
In the mid 1990’s a study tour through Italy gave rise to the initial idea of planting olive groves. George Green saw the olive trees growing on rocky hillsides and harsh soils and believed that these trees could adapt to our region very easily. An idea was born.
As soon as he got back, George set about determining if olives could be cultivated in the local Hyden area. Well meaning government agencies informed him that he was wasting his time and that olives could never be grown successfully in the area. But that didn't deter George. Knowing what he had seen in Italy, George persevered and after much dedication and research, he managed to show very clearly that olives could be successfully grown in the area with the first grove being established at Claytons.
Nearly 8,000 olive trees later, George decided that he might just have enough trees to start producing olive oil and olives for the table.
One night George’s daughter-in-law, Kerrie had a dream of a top quality Italian Restaurant where the family could show-case their olive products. And so the “dream” of Terra Vista was born.
Today the farm produces not just olives and olive oil, but pickled olives, olive wood produce and olive oil soap with added essential oils.
Terra Vista is a tribute to the creativity, resilience and perseverance of the Green family, who all work on the farm and in the restaurant in a variety of roles.
The local community enthusiastically support Terra Vista, so if you would like to visit and taste the authentic Italian cuisine – make sure you ring to make a booking!
